Signs You're Trying Too Hard at Work & What To Do
Sometimes, workers want so badly to make a good impression on their bosses and coworkers that they try too hard. This might be the case with you. These are some signs that you are putting forth too much effort to fit in and what you can do about it:
You Make a Lot of Mistakes
For some reason, trying too hard seems to cause people to mess up more frequently. Don't stress if it happens to you. Take a deep breath and pull back on overdoing it. Your bosses will be more impressed if you take your time and do it right.
Your Coworkers Seem Annoyed
If your coworkers seem annoyed, it might be because they notice your extraordinary efforts. Maybe they don't work as hard or try as hard, and they want everyone else to follow suit. Workers who try too hard to impress their bosses seem to rub other people the wrong way, even if they don't intend to do so. You should continue to use good work ethics if you have them and not let anyone bully you into not doing so. However, you can cut down your efforts to take on responsibilities that aren't yours.
You Hear Snide Remarks
You might be trying too hard if you continuously hear snide remarks about your performance. In many cases, coworkers and even bosses will attempt to make other workers feel small if they perceive them to have huge egos. You may not have a huge ego at all, but you might be targeted if they see you that way. In which case, you'll hear sneers, snarks, and mumbles from other people. You can take that as a sign that they don't like something you're doing.
The long and short of it is that you shouldn't waste your time trying to go too far above and beyond to impress other people. You likely won't change their minds anyway.
